I have my NixOS set up the same way, with the CachyOS kernel and the CachyOS Proton for Steam.

on another machine I have regular Arch but also uses the CachyOS Kernel and I also use the CachyOS repos for that. Honestly it’s CachyOS without all the extra bloat. And that’s my own gripe about CachyOS itself. its’ great, it just comes with a lot of crap attached to it making the install one of the longest out of any distro I’ve ever used. they really need to trim the fat on it.

What I would suggest to people is install Arch with the CachyOS Kernel and Repo. you’ll essentially have CachyOS without all the crap.

yeah last week I tried Nobara again after not using it for several months. wanted the KDE Plasma 6.6 update. nope. GE hadn’t done the monthly sync yet. when is the monthly sync? whenever he feels like it. Sorry I can’t use a distro that’s based on the whims of one guy. don’t get me wrong I like GE, I like his Protons, but Nobara needs a team behind it.

Because if you donate to a FOSS project you’re likely not looking for the attention, adoration, and possible “maybe they’ll date me” from the developer. People who pay A LOT to onlyfans models are looking for that. It’s the same reason people donate to twitch streamers. They want the attention, they want the acknowledgement.

They complained about the parks, they complained about safe injection sites, they made up fantastical stories of each, and now they complain that all the people now congregate around Union Station or whatever random TTC station/subway/bus/streetcar.

It was so amusing when we had encampments in parks. They would ALL complain about one particular park near Spadina and Front about how none of them could use the park anymore and I said “I’m in my 40s, I’ve lived in this area for 20+ years, none of you used the park when encampments didn’t exist”. Guess what? that park is clear now annnnnnd no one uses it. I walk by there every day.

It’s the same deal with the safe consumption sites. they all complained about them how people were getting mugged outside them, people stealing shit, blah blah blah and none of those things happened. Your average addict is too high, too strung out, can barely walk or stand up straight to mug anyone. And if they did you could literally just slightly push them over and move on. the majority of the time they all walk around with back problems or are folded over themselves to do anything. The people complaining just constantly make up stories of stuff that doesn’t happen to paint these people who need help as villains.

yeah I didn’t mean my previous comments to be offensive or anything because I’ve generally never had a NSF fee and I use to be fairly broke fairly often. things either got paid or they didn’t. if there wasn’t enough money in the account well the transaction be it a debit or a pre-auth payment or whatever just didn’t go through so that’s why I’m just curious about it.

Now when I lived in the US briefly? all the damn time I’d get nailed with NSF fees. so I know they suck. but here in Canada? I can’t recall ever getting one so I was honestly curious as to how they happened.

since Plasma 6.5 I just daily drive it now. prior to that I was all about WM’s be it Herbstluftwm, Sway, Niri, whatever but after awhile I just got tired of configuring them or dealing with quirks about each one and what have you. Plasma just does everything I need and I don’t have to think about it. And you can even get it to tile now be it manual or dynamic. Plus you can theme the hell out of it. It just works. Plus Konsole has become my favourite terminal. just don’t see a point in using other stuff anymore.

When I lived in the US it was incredibly easy to overdraw at the bank due to how they process debits. This was naturally by design.

Here in Canada I can’t even recall the last time I overdrew and got an NSF fee. the debits are processed differently here where it makes it almost impossible to overdraw. I’m by no means an expert on banking but I honestly don’t think I’ve ever overdrawn. If I didn’t have enough money it was just declined.

I’m fairly confident we hate this breaking point several years/decades ago. I can’t recall the last time I went to the ER and didn’t wait for several hours.

as someone who has played EVE Online since launch…yup that sounds about right.

“leveling up” in EVE isn’t based on XP, it’s time based. you buy skills, had them to your skill queue, and they level up over hours, days, or even weeks. Or if you’re building something again that’s all time based. you either log off or do something else in game.

Hell due to the meta in the game and the massive player alliances there’s some alliance leaders that don’t even bother logging in. They just manage their alliance out of game. you can easily “play” EVE without actually playing EVE. so former EVE devs doing something like this shouldn’t surprise anyone.
