I was looking at Graphite Editor project and how the hell is 24k stars on GitHub translate to 600$ per month?
This is not the first open source project that I see with this problem.
Why the hell is no one supporting open source developers?
FOSS is not as sexy as tits.
Speak for yourself.
Very few OF models earn anywhere close to that.
The average OF model gets $130 a month. The top 1% of OF models get $50k a year.
The ones you’re thinking of earning tens of thousands/millions a month are the top 0.1%
Also, it’s a huge myth (marketing lie) that the average OF model is making any appreciable money.

Ask 100 random people if they know what is open source software and if they know what is porn.
My guess is 100% will know what is porn and maybe 10% will know about open source software.
I mean… People like boobs.
Because the developers aren’t equivalent to OnlyFans models.
OnlyFans models are for-profit business owners using OnlyFans as infrastructure, not employees or volunteers.So you’d have to compare their profits with for-profit business owners using opensource software as infrastructure.
Examples of those are Red Hat, Canonical, Broadcom, Microsoft, Apple, etc.A free market will not value all products the same.
Those two aren’t in any way related.

While the simple answer is that sex sells, perhaps we could use this example to reflect a bit on our behaviour in the FOSS community.
Being new to this world, I think that perhaps us newbies forget that the F in FOSS maybe comes with expectations. It’s free because we all contribute. Now, I can’t code nearly as good as it would take to contribute with work, thus I should, much like the porn community through onlyfans, donate to the creators whose work I benefit from. The paywall of onlyfans is not a good solution for our community, but neither is taking peoples contributions for granted. I will donate more in the future!

people like jerking off to OF girls,/guys and they pay thier subscriptions, plus some of them “meet up with OF FANS” sometimes. and that adds up, OF people also have marketing on places like reddit and other social media platforms more exposure more traffic to thier subscription multiply that by hundreds if not thousands of followers , compared to a niche following for tech developers. i doubt developers are driving traffic to github, since they are unlikely to draw eyes from social media to OF.
the top of people are earning way more than 1k.
