my boss loves AI and he uses it for everything. he made some stats graphs and summaries, and he was bragging how he got AI to make them errorless: he tells it to check for errors and makes it swear it’s accurate… while we were looking at a graph where the y column numbers were all fucked up

true, like cinnamon is perfect on mint, but for example fedora cinnamon feels very wrong. it’s been a while since i tried it, but it definitely wasn’t as stable, and i had to change a lot of stuff from dconf editor, like for example the location bar in the file manager always defaulted to text mode even if you switched it to link mode

cannot recommend pop with their new cosmic DE, it’s quite bad. looks nice at first, but the more you dive in, the more it lacks basic stuff and you start noticing soo many little bugs and annoyances. had it on my laptop for a while, eventually just installed gnome. it started crashing frequently and suddenly i could no longer start steam, so i just installed ultramarine since it has been playing nice on my desktop. and it has just worked since.

thanks, i do enjoy it even though it brings a bit of shame in the current climate situation. oh well, someone would’ve bought it anyway, might as well be me who only drives like 200 km per month

haven’t heard anyone here in northern europe call them estates, but it’s a 7 speed dsg (2013), not sure that engine even came with any other options. and it has torsen, apparently allroads are always torsen. pics i don’t have yet, got it a few months ago and it has been dark and now everything is wet and dirty, summer can’t arrive soon enough 😅 also kinda wanted something with a more interesting color than dark blue, but this one had perfect service history and only one owner

same here, but to be fair i would still use mint if i hadn’t had so many issues with it

me on ultramarine got beard behind my balls

mint occasionally loses all sound devices on my media pc, but that’s usually fixed with a reboot. and easy effects caused random sound lags, so i have to live without eq.

your cpu is good, seems like you were on the right tracks originally. people have been complaining about 5080 performance with dx12 games on linux. it may take them a while to get the drivers right, but i did recently see some news (techlinked probably) about nvidia adding resources to optimizing their linux drivers

nvidia drivers are good performance-wise, you should have installed the proprietary ones because mint comes with nouveau, which does not perform well at all. if you did that, let’s talk about L3 cache. ironically gaming on low end hardware is worse on linux because apparently proton needs quite a bit of that cache. my previous cpu (9600kf) had 9 MB and it was hopeless, current one has almost 100 and performance is not an issue anymore.

btw pop os comes with proprietary nvidia drivers so you don’t need to think about it all, but because they ship it with their half-done cosmic de, can’t recommend it to newcomers anymore…
