8·5 days agoStill think hiding the score would go a long way.
Even if it is just a slight bias you get, it does skew your opinion to the “correct side” i think.
I like that the fediverse does not have any sort of karma system, that does already help.Maybe Photon can have that as a feature? Love your client so much btw. big fan.

Ask Lemmy@lemmy.world•Do you need an LinkedIn to get a job in 2026?English
3·7 days agoYea, i think that is why i have deleted it as well. Already got a feeling that I dont have much interest in the kind of companies that would be linkedin only.

10·7 days agoThats a fair point, I do wonder though how long it would take for company to realize though, cause afaik you can make shit up on linkedin as well. Not sure if the companies get notified about that and if they can revoke such a claim.

Technology@lemmy.world•Mastodon.social is not a good way to join Mastodon. If you’re already on it, you might want to move your account to a different Mastodon server. | Fedi.Tips – An Unofficial Guide to Mastodon and the FEnglish
3·9 days agoI also do not like this kind of sentiment. Sure in a perfect world it would be slightly better if we all are distributed equally on different servers. But the biggest advantage of the Fediverse still stands, even if we all are on a central instance. If mastodon.social ever looses its shit for whatever reason, its still possible to move without loosing connections.
I think ridiculing new folks about “rules” like this make the Fediverse less inviting and is counter productive. And to be honest the experience on .social is far better than on smaller instances IF you are coming from twitter and are looking for something similar. When I see new people on .social im happy that they even joined Fedi.

3·13 days agoYea, he has a very unique style. Very “broadcast-yourself” era kind of YouTube. I really like his writing, its clear to me the he is putting a lot of effort into each video. Especially in this video with the intro about the origins of “Guy” making this a really nice package. Probably not every ones cup of tea (as seen by the other commenter) but I’m always happy to see a new upload of his.

Technology@lemmy.world•UK fines Reddit $19 million for using children’s data unlawfullyEnglish
4·22 days agoThe headline is a bit misleading is it not? There is no evidence of children’s data being used unlawfully. (I mean there might I don’t know what counts as “unlawful”) This is just a fine for Reddit not to follow UKs dystopian ideas in time.

Fediverse@lemmy.world•Newish to Fediverse - do I use one account across all services?English
22·25 days agoI have an account in the threadiverse (lemmy, piefed…) and one in microblogverse (mastodon, gotosocial…). just because they behave so differently it is not a great ux to be using only one.
in some instances it does make sense though. if your are not a heavy lemmy user and primarily use mastodon you could just @ the corresponding community in your posts. they will then show up normally here and you can still interact with it. (following communities on mastodon looks bad on mastodons end though)
or if you just want to comment or like a video on peertube you could just do that from any instance. peertube accounts also show up on lemmy like normal communities which is neat.
so in short if your are not planning on using something heavily it is probably enough to just use an account you already have. but like with everything you should just try things out and see what works best for you. :)

Technology@lemmy.world•Judge scolds Mark Zuckerberg's team for wearing Meta glasses to social media trialEnglish
1·27 days agoOh yea you are right. XP was a joy to use. They have been slacking since they got that monopoly though. I am forced to use Outlook because of the company. And am always amazed how many redirects you can do for a simple authentication. Every service looks completely different and the audio in teams is so broken it cuts off for a couple of seconds and switches from mono to stereo for no apparent reason. Everything just feels like its extra work.
Switching to Linux on my private devices actually reminded me of the old windows. I just wish the UI UX of some software would be on par as well. LibreOffice and GIMP is just not fun to use.
Normally I look stores up using OSM and I believe I found my ISP through an comparison portal. Sure there could be advertisement involved and I definitely bought many things because of it. I just don’t think we would need that in any way and that the quality of life would even go up if we banned all advertisement.
Its definitely not feasible, at least not in our life times. In my city there was a citizen initiative to ban a lot of public advertisements which did not went through as there were not enough people signing up. So apparently we are not ready for that yet. Burning all the advertising execs does sound like a sensible thing to do though :) Lets settle on that.
I guess on the internet or in the store.

92·28 days agoIt always amazes me how Microsoft is though. Stuff like Threads, Instagram, Facebook is incredibly evil but they still work?! I can at least understand why the majority of people who don’t care are there. Microsofts products don’t even work to begin with though. Everything they touch be it Xbox, Teams or Windows is just so bad i wonder how we even ended up here.
How would you know what to search for?
Because of the needs I have, when I am hungry ill search for recipes or restaurants. When my apartment needs cleaning ill search for cleaning supplies, when I am bored ill look up what movies are playing.
I actually can not come up with a single situation where advertisement would be needed or helpful in anyway. I also do not have a problem with smaller advertisement, but in my dreams they are all banned regardless. Won’t be missing those.
I really do not like brightness of the screen. Last year I found out how cool paperbacks are (the smaller ones) as I can put them in my pockets. Been reading more in 2025 than i did in the last decade i feel like.
I like the feeling of actually holding knowledge in your bare hands (given you can read and understand the language). Its so cool!

Yea, you are probably right. Just wanted to ask before I hand it down myself, in case I missed some really cool use case for it.
My Jellyfin is also very basic with everything pre transcoded as I don’t even have/need >1080p.
This sounds really cool. Does that actually work, did you do a comparison? I would have expected that most RAM usage comes from rendering the frame and not sending it, or does
waypipesomehow outsource that as well?
