Then just days later he went and made some handshake investment deal with Qatar, a gulf dictatorship that used thousands of slaves to build its World Cup stadiums, and is the country holding onto the proceeds of Trump’s sale of stolen Venezuelan oil.

Then Carney cheered the unprovoked US & Israeli attacks on Iran, walked back his support a little when he saw the public outrage, and is now trying to weasel-word his way into Canadian troops supporting the fascist US in a war of aggression.

I agree that it’s what he said in Davos, but this ‘doctrine’ is effectively just caving to the outlook of Trump, Putin, et al, which deems that economic and military might make right, and that we should measure human worth in GDP rather than the inherent value of one’s humanity.

True - although oddly the author seems to frame this as something our federal leadership understands but that ‘everyday Canadians’ don’t … and yet it seems to me to be the exact opposite.

If the feds really understood the threat — or perhaps more accurately, if they cared about the threat; as long as capital’s interests aren’t threatened, it seems they aren’t too bothered — then they wouldn’t be cheering on the attacks on Venezuela and kidnapping of Maduro, or deflecting the ridiculous fentanyl accusations by saying “nah it’s actually Mexico’s fault”, or staying near-silent about the blockade of Cuba. Instead, they would be standing up to the US alongside those countries.

was misrepresenting the actual situation. In fact, the article you linked also said that

Carney isn’t ‘playing defence against the US’ here; he’s outright pushing the exact falsehoods that were the pretext for this unprovoked attack by a fascist state that he is still calling our “ally”.

Honestly, like, all through the election campaign and the last year, Liberal supporters have been crowing about how uniquely suited to this moment Carney is, how brilliant a tactician he is.

Now it’s becoming clear to them that the critics, who correctly clocked him as a ruthless capitalist who doesn’t care about the public he’s supposed to be serving, were right all along.

So the excuses start flying. I’ve heard some version of “Carney just needs more experience” at least a dozen times in the last couple days.

This is a serious moment, not a time for excuses. If he’s not up to the job, then demand his replacement.

He called the US our ally twice in his response to the question. On multiple occasions over the last few days he has repeated US and Israeli propaganda about Iran’s nuclear capabilities and ambitions, calling them a “nuclear threat”.

And instead of doing the thing that any competent politician who is against this war of aggression would do — say “no, we are not getting involved in this conflict and I am not going to entertain wild hypotheticals” — he left the door open for sending Canadians to fight alongside the fascist US who have threatened our annexation.

Either he’s aligned with Trump’s worldview, or he’s a dangerously naive fool (or both). Either way, he’s clearly unfit to lead this country.
