I was originally imagining North Korea as being a basic job recruiter that could actually get you into interviews for a real job, but just black market because doing anything with North Korea is illegal.

But the other way they would just be normal contractors (still black market or course), which is the way most big companies are going anyway.

Of course, I really just want to know how they keep getting hired for jobs when I can’t even get a response or an interview.

For those of us who are old enough to remember peak Google, it is understandable.
They revolutionized and opened up so many things that were grossly monopolized before they got involved. Android broke the telecoms insane grip on cell phone designs and features. Several people have already mentioned how Google fiber changed things in local connectivity, but Google dramatically changed global connectivity way before Google fiber. There used to be only a few international (under sea) connections, and not only was it slow and congested, but entire continents could just drop off the internet for weeks or even months at a time. They broke MS Office’s death grip on basic productivity tools. There was a time where private individuals, even grade school students were required to buy an entire professional productivity (Office) in order to deliver basic school work like writing essays. I can think of almost a dozen ways right off the top of my head that they revolutionized the world and really did take the “Do no evil” slogan to heart.
But, as with every company that “goes public”, they slowly changed from "Do no evil’ to “Do know evil” and now they are exactly the soul and life destroying parasites that they used to free us from.

It will take at least a year for full on enshitifcation to ramp up, so you could always just switch once it goes to shit.

Surveys are so easy to manipulate that if someone tells you they made a decision based on a survey, that you can immediately assume that what they are really saying is that they made a decision that they knew would be unpopular, obviously biased, or otherwise disastrous, but they wanted to blame the decision on “other people”.

My son really liked that one, and he would watch it over and over. I can’t even guess how many times I’ve watched it at this point. Although that number pales in comparison to Wall-e. Before he moved on to How To Train Your Dragon, he would watch WALL-E literally on repeat. I used to whisper little prayers of thanks to whatever caused his little brain to fixate on Wall-e rather than some of the other movies he could have fixated on.

FYI, most newer cars have a way for you to turn off the auto lock feature. It is usually a setting in menus, but some might have you do things like close all the doors, turn the car on, and then hold the unlock button for 10 seconds.
Worst case scenario is it has to be done through the programming tool, so if you can’t figure out how to do it yourself, then the next time you have it serviced tell them to turn off the auto-locks.

If I remember correctly, when auto locks were first introduced some countries saw them as dangerous so automakers were required to provide a way to turn it off.

Lemmy only exists because the people who were too much of an asshole for reddit (they got banned) decided to make themselves a place where they can’t fully be banned. So, ya, there’s still that core of the “I hate everything” asshats that can’t be gotten rid of.
On the other hand, the huge influx of people that abandoned reddit for moral reasons or because they became a fascist propaganda machine are typically very liberal and open minded (woke). But I find that there’s not much room to have nuanced discussions when every such conversation gets brigaded by the small group of haters and their army of alt accounts and bots.
I also have noticed a massive influx of paid shills here pushing divisiveness, “anarchy”, violence, and “social tolerance” fatigue (they ostensibly are promoting social awareness and causes, but go out of their way to insult what is already a woke group). Unfortunately, this attack on social values works well when you have a group that hates everything already. People just aren’t interested in nuanced discussions when any opinion they voice gets them attacked by what appears to be “both sides”.

People sue the us government all the time over just about anything. It’s only under this guy that it seems dangerous. But even then, as long as they bribe him, they can steal from the US government all they want and he won’t do anything.
