Something like that. I see a weird pattern with articles about AI and articles about immigration in right wing circles. They’re the same. Like the themes and focus in the headlines for each all seem to be reused

That’s not true

Someone the other day bragged that they tagged me as a fascist and racist 😆 I have no idea why but I think tagging is stupid in general.

I did want to read some comments discussing the contents of the article. I’ll pop back later I guess
This is kind of what I’m getting at. Like no matter what post I go on, it is all the same. The comments are cookie cutter from post to post.
4chan had insane investigative abilities. Reddit had insight from experts on so many posts about anything. Lemmy is just people who don’t like things.

Your Comment is on the level of “touch grass” just to highlight why lemmy is rapidly turning into a shit show

My disgust at lemmy users grows daily. This place was suppose to be something great. Why not just read the piece and go off what it says. People need to accept that technology is here and they need to get over it.
There are handful of comments so far and none of them are discussion the content. They’re all obsessed if they can tell if it’s AI or not.
Of course there issues with AI but this place was heavily astroturfed against and now we’re stuck with the consequences

This is in Canada. You tell me. A cop finds someone in your car going through it. What are they going to do?

That’s the number of occurrences now when it isn’t a crime that anyone gets in caught for. Police take it upon themselves to be judges deciding where the law will and will not be applied. Criminals know petty crime is overlooked. Police do not even arrest individuals they find rummage in a vehicle. Those break ins are also not evenly distributed across the country. Police are choosing not to tackle this issue. It is not beneath them. It is their job.

You tell me. How many?

No they’re not. They have the largest budgets every where. They are misallocating their budget. They are fat on the hog. Salaries and benefits are too high. Their equipment egregious. They are not providing even basic law enforcement capabilities. They should be the first place to look for budget cuts until they get in order

That’s the one. But even then, they can’t be held accountable. Look at the gun buy back. Police all over are refusing to do their job. Same happened during covid. Police forces just flat out refused to listen if they don’t want to. In America it also is happening more frequently. The police refused to action what the state government were asking of them.
Yet every year it’s Police budgets that eat up the Majority of all budgets. So what are they doing?

If they cannot provide this basic service then we as the public need to the law in our own hands. The entier reason we do not is we entrust that to police. But they no longer serve. They are there to increase their budget and militarize themselves to protect only certain people.

There’s a few ways I would like to take this but also I think overall I agree with you.
I don’t go into it to much but where I’m slowly adapting my views are on a few issues.
One is that I think one is that no cost should be incurred by anyone who defended themselves. I do totally get the argument that everybody deserves justice including criminals. But the stories I’ve come across tend to highlight how self defense laws are lacking in Canada and there is a lot of room between allowing all killings and some kind of castle doctrine.
The second issue for me is as I’ve aged, I can’t tell you what the hell police do. The amount of times myself or someone i know has called them, only for them to say “not much we can do, just file a report online” is too many. Yet majority of my municipal taxes go to them. So for me I am coming around to the idea that we need to pull back some of the responsibility society has given to police and reclaim it ourselves. They’re not keeping us safe. They are now refusing to act when the government tells them to. Because of this I think society does need to go back to the idea that we can’t rely on the justice system.

Yup, I’m with you on this one

But this defense costs money. Likely thousands. That shouldn’t be the case

But it is numbers. It’s always been about numbers. Humans are social creatures. We see everybody agreeing about something, we tend to also agree. It’s a weird phenomenon that has research behind it. It’s not like you or I are going to become Trump supporters because we see everybody agreeing with him. There are somethings that are immovable. But many opinions are movable and in those areas this groups are attempting to get numbers. It should be met with an equal and greater force. At the same time we need to quit being defensive and go back on the offensive. We should be creating groups and building networks. The algorithms do respond.

How do they get this data. Isn’t it stuff that is collected so it’s not even a full set of data. It’s just a collection that some amazing people were able to pull since Facebook locks down their api
There is a well-established “perception gap” between what we think others believe and what they actually believe. A recent poll by ReClimate found that 42 per cent of Canadians think about addressing climate change at least weekly, and yet they believe only 26 per cent of their neighbours do the same. Similarly, research has found as many as 89 per cent of people want more action on climate change — yet those 89 per cent tend to believe they’re in the minority.
So many people shit on me here in lemmy for saying this, but we have to do better. We have to nut the fuck up and deal with this. Instead of the exodus off these social media platforms, we need to be the ones drowning them the fuck out. Who cares if they’re owned by who. It’s all still works based on numbers. We need numbers to identify problems and combat the spread of this. That’s how we all felt back in the day. Defeat misinformation by engaging with it. Somewhere along the line we were all convinced to ignore it which only allowed it to spread more rapidly.
If they want to fuck around, we’re suppose to be the tech literate. We need grass roots networks and forums identifying the leaders and these small number of problem users and we need to make it as difficult as we can for them to work.

Hahaha hahaha haha
On lemme they broke these groups down into multiple groups consisting of 6 people each. Essentially they’re built to destroy any possible momentum before you get anywhere. There’s a ton of groups to post about memes with loose formats that build community. So if you wanted to post about beans or moths you’re golden. The actual groups to be more political or social minded are fragmented purposefully. This one here is only news articles, this one is only mêmes, I don’t think there’s even a single one for clips so that isn’t even an option. Good luck.
I think lemme very much encompasses why the left has regressed over the past 20 years. They’re even being regressed by anti vaccine advocates. It’s pretty sad. I wish we could be more socially aware about how to build these things up. But it does make sense why there isn’t much for the boycotts or leftist groups.

My conspiracy is that social media is being used to make every one much more callouse and cold to each other. That’s where they break the country. The bots knew it was very easy to manipulate the left to scare them off digital spaces. Now they have free reign to make all kinds of groups and posts filled with comments uncontested. Stuff like Pretti good shot on any shooting, hundreds of them. Over time it changes how people think since there is no push back. As it pushes people to be angrier and pissed off, it moves the public opinion away from any leftist since they’re seen as very weak and ineffective
Have you ever had to can the police to report something like this?
