I own few things that need repairing. The main one is my bike and I do maintain that myself. Though I probably need to replace the bags on it, repaired them a few times and it isn’t really holding together anymore. Those are a case of probably time to buy better quality.
Seeing things break makes me want to not own that type of product again if I can avoid it. Teflon pans break how quickly? Fuck that, cast iron for life now!

I just sharpen my knives in the underside of a shitty ceramic mug or plate. Have been thinking of using a slate roof tile as they are bigger.
Would love to get a battery to make use of off peak rates but with the labour cost as well it would take ages to pay for its self, I don’t use that much energy which is also part of it.
Could get a large camping battery and do it myself for the rest of the house which at least eliminates labour rates. But the heat pump would still use mains power. I suspect replacing our windows would be a better investment and is on our to do list.

At my job we have been told how we have to start using AI more. I can’t really see any point. The only tasks AI can help me for are pointless tasks from HR that shouldn’t exist in the first place. Monthly forms with questions like “how are you feeling emotionally”, used to take me ages to come up with corpo bullshit friendly answers but locally hosted deepseek does it in seconds.
Been using it as my only OS since 2010, I know Linux better than I know Windows. Unfortunately despite being told at school how useful Linux experience is I am yet to really benefit from it in any way when it comes to employment. Last role I saw said they wanted someone with more experience with Linux and wouldn’t count home use as experience.
