I lived in an active area, am very tall, genuinely kind, work a weird schedule that incorporates lots of time off and I’m pretty charismatic. Luck was also heavily on my side.

I don’t necessarily disagree but its the highest level talent pool that exists for the sport. Fairly compensated is really tough to nail down. I think fighters should be salaried with health insurance and earn bonuses. But a massive variance in pay would and should still exist based on a few factors like popularity, record, out of org experience etcetera. I don’t know of any combat sports organizations that do that though. Every discipline of combat sports has shady pay structures.
